eMule panel v2.0 is available!

Download in the end of this post.

eMule v0.45 users please read this in order to enable the panel.

New features:
  • Choose which stats would you like to see and save place in your Desktop Sidebar.
  • Launch eMule if it's not running.
  • New panel properties were added - no need to change your eMule's path manually.
V1.0 Features:
  • It shows your current download and upload rate
  • It shows whether you are connected or not
  • It shows your server
  • It shows the server's IP and its port
  • It shows how many clients are in your queue list
Thanks for all the people who have helped. If I start write their names here I won't finish until next year. biggrin.gif
Special thanks for DoitJust, who has beta tested the panel and reported.

The panel is based on GaMe oVeR's eMule plugin. As far as I know, he doesn't develop his plugin any more and people had some problems with his panel, so I've decided to build my panel. Anyway, my code is not based on his code, so there isn't any violation of law. rolleyes.gif

Well, some things you should now before using this panel:

IMPORTANT: Users who upgrade: Please DELETE the eMulePro folder which is in your C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Application Data\Desktop Sidebar\Plugins folder, and only then install this panel with the dspackage file.

Because it's written in C++, it doesn't have to be registered with regasm. This panel doesn't use .NET Framework either, so it won't decrease your computer's speed.

The panel uses a feature of eMule which called "Online Signature". In order to enable it, you need to go to eMule's preferneces, and check there the box "Enable online signature". It's in all versions of eMule, as far as I know.

Unlike GaMe oVer's plugin, the eMule path is not set only to C:\Program Files\eMule. You can change the eMule path by using the panel properties.

Troubleshooting:

Q: I get the message "Can't find eMule in the selected path".
A: Check whether you have defined the real eMule path in the panel properties.
A2: Check whether you have enabled in eMule the Online Signature, as explained above.

Q: I get the message "eMule isn't connected. You can click here in order to open eMule".
A: Click on the message to open eMule. Notice that if the program is already running, eMule won't be opened.

Q: I get a real frightening error message or my sidebar crash.
A: Um... That shouldn't happen. If it happens although my begging, please post the error message here and I'll try to fix it.

Download from the eMule's plugin page in the File Forum.

Hi!

Is it possible to create the same (very nice) plugin, but for Overnet ? (another p2p client)
DoitJust
An Overnet panel would be nice 2 have rolleyes.gif
Prism
I don't use Overnet so I won't be able to develop a plugin for it.

However, if Overnet includes the option to produce a file with statistics (such as the online signature of eMule), I promise I'll try to implement this panel.
DoitJust
I have no knowledge about eMule but I will D/L and
find out whatever I can..
DoitJust
Overnet uses same kind of .part files, same networks (allmost) but
does not produce the "onlinesig.dat" file.
Means you have to catch it some other way sad.gif

Off topic. Overnet gives a lot better d/l speed, eMule finds more files.
Guess I'll start using both, eMule to locate files, Overnet to d/l biggrin.gif
Prism
I haven't said that it must produce the onlinesig.dat.
It's enough that it produce any file, with stats in it (such as d/l rate etc.).

EDIT: you know, it's the 1000th reply in the forum biggrin.gif
DoitJust
Unfortunately no file whatsoever including any stats.
Just the .met files, encrypted beyond recognition.
Guess I have to calm down and wait.
Glad you're interrested anyway.

flowers.gif to the 1000'th post!
Ski-lleR
the DL/UL speed are showed in the title of the overnet window. You can grab it for here, no ?

for the moment, i reduce overnet in task bar, then i view the download speed, but if i reduce in systray, the speed can't be viewed anymore

sorry for my english

watch at bottom of my desktop, you can view overnet ->
http://membres.lycos.fr/epsxefr/divers/desktop4.jpg

i think it's possible to view this thing with overnet plugin ->

* It shows your current download and upload rate [YES]
* It shows whether you are connected or not [YES]
* It shows your server [NO -> decentralized network, no static server]
* It shows the server's IP and its port [NO -> Same]
* It shows how many clients are in your queue list [YES]

Alright, I'll try to implement this panel as soon as possible.
But it will have to wait since I have some previous commitments.

This panel makes a fun program even more useful! wink.gif But I noticed it has no Panel Properties for us to customize at all. sad.gif

For example, I myself have no interest in knowing what server I'm on or what IP port. And yet these are the first two lines, wasting the precious space of the sidebar. All I care are the UL / DL speeds. Is it possible to program these enable/disable things, maybe in form of check or radio boxes?

Secondly, is it possible to, when clicking on the stats in the Panel, instead of doing nothing, it lauches Emule program? flowers.gif

Thanks for your improvement suggestions.
Actually, I've already thought about the first problem - the next version of the panel will include the option to show or to hide stats, of course, with panel properties. wink.gif

Concerning the launching - I haven't thought about it yet, and I'll try to implement it.

Thanks. smile.gif

I'm looking for a beta tester for version 2 of this panel.
Any volunteers?

This version include:
  • New panel properties, for an easy way to change options.
  • Option to change eMule path from the panel properties, no need anymore to write manually to the dsplugin file.
  • Option to select what information do you want to see.
  • If eMule isn't open, click on the panel to launch the program.

No one? unsure.gif

I would like to, but I'm going for a week, so I don't think it would be a good idea to let me test it. laugh.gif
Prism
I think that half an hour is enough for testing it. I want to see if some things work on other computer as well. If you do want it, PM me your email.
DoitJust
I use it all the time.
Still need help?
Prism
Yep. Please PM me your email, and I'll send you the file.
DoitJust
Got it and you have a reply smile.gif

New version is available. Please check first post.

hi
according to the emule panel
they made some changes in the onlinesig.dat file, in the new version 043a

i didnt try it myself but mayb it can supply more data than there is now
Prism
According to their site, only the mechanism of saving the file was changed.

However, if someone has downloaded the new version and seen that the file's format has changed, I would like to see an example of the new file.

I have just tried out this panel. Here's my first impression:

After changing the path to the onlinesig.dat the panel still showed the error message. I had to remove the panel and then add it again.
I would appreciate it if there were a details window showing all the information available (especially if the panel itself is restricted to e.g. UL/DL).

Nice work!
Prism
What do you mean "all information"?

I can't reproduce the bug you've mentioned. It's fine with me. rolleyes.gif

Oh, thanks smile.gif

What do you mean "all information"?

All information the onlinesig.dat holds.

Example:
You decide that you just want the panel to display the UL-rate. Moving the mouse over the rate displayed could open a details windows showing all the information available (i.e. UL, DL, server etc.).
Prism
Um. I'll add it after I finish my How Long Until Panel.
antu^jamban
ive just tried this panel today. i have a suggestion for u. pls add a BROWSE button so people can easily select the onlinesig.dat file.

EDIT: add word wrap to "can't find eMule in the..." so all text will be displayed.

EDIT 2: the panel is not working. ive set the dir correctly but the panel still wont work. i have eMule 0.42g installed.

What error message do you get?

Concerning the new ideas - they will be implemented.
antu^jamban
no error msg. the panel still displaying the "can't find eMule in the..." text. i search for onlinesig.dat in my eMule folder but didnt find it. maybe the onlinesig.dat that causes the problem. is there anything i should know?
Prism
May I get a screenshot of your properties?

Did enable Online Signature in eMule preferneces?

Did enable Online Signature in eMule preferneces?

laugh.gif silly me, i forgot to enable it. its working now, thanks
Prism
Glad it has worked. smile.gif

Some more bug reports and requests will be definitely welcome.
Krimoufuk
I feel so special that my requests were realized! Thanks! signs007.gif

A note: if you ever used a previous version of eMule stats, you'd not only need to delete the plugin folder in C:\Documents and Settings\username\Application Data\Desktop Sidebar\plugins\eMulePro -- but you'd also need to delete the two eMulePro files in C:\Program Files\Desktop Sidebar
GoMa
These files shouldn't have been in DS's directory in the first place. smile.gif
No plugin file should be there. These files were a "leftover" from the old installation method.

Hi.

I think this panel would be even greater if the eDonkey users could use it too to control their statistics.

Is anybody thinking about developing this feature? I think this would be great, because we are lots of eDonkey users.

Regards
Prism
I don't think I understand you. Do you mean another panel for eDonkey, not for eMule?
The problem with this is that AFAIK eDonkey doesn't use the online signature option, therefore I can't get the stats.

However, if eDonkey in its last versions does include the online signature option (i.e. exporting stats to a file) I will try to develop an eDonkey panel.
jababe
Hi again.

I have been looking for some information, and I must say you are right: eDonkey doesn't use the online signature option.

So, we must wait for this feature to be developed. Since then, we'll keep on controlling eDonkey stats in the traditional way...

Regards.

Hmmm, now I read the complete Thread only to find out that eDonkey is not supported yet... sad.gif
Prism
I hope it was interesting, though. tongue.gif
dstein
I didn't notice anyone else mention this, so I thought I'd let everyone know that this plugin works great with eMule Plus.
Prism
Interesting to know.
Thanks.

Are there any plans to add a Shareaza monitoring panel?

CODE
e.g.: http://www.shareaza.com

I've answered you in the other thread.

Hi there,

As a user, I feel that the eMule panel doesn't give me the whole information that I need. Take, for example, the Azureus panel, which shows not only the global d/l and u/l rates, but also the downloads names, their status and many other options. Obviously Azureus panel for eMule is what we all want.

The problem, however, is what eMule exposes. While Azureus saves all the information it can find, eMule saves only five items: global d/l rate, global u/l rate, name of the server, IP of the server, and how many clients are waiting to download from you - queue list.

Therefore, I've posted a message in the eMule official forums, asking for more stats which will be exposed. I can't see anyone doing something about it, though.

So, users, you have the power. You can express your wishes in the eMule forum, and you can convince them that it's necessary. You can also ignore this message and do nothing, but I can't think about any reason that you'll do this. tongue.gif

Have a nice day. flowers.gif

Hi there,

This may sound really really stupid, but i seriously cant find the "use the online signature" anywhere. I'm using eMule v0.45b, if anyone could tell me where to find this check box i would be really happy smile.gif

By the way ive never used this program before so if its simple i'm sorry, I just need some practice lol.

Thanks a lot

It's really strange. I can't find the option now myself. It used to be in the General tab in the options form, but now it's gone.

Could you please check if eMule creates now the onlinesig.dat file automatically? The file should be in your eMule folder, usually C:\Program Files\eMule\onlinesig.dat.
