objectdock plus is cool... they have made a bunch of improvements. im going to give it another shot. see what they have that DS doesnt, and then report back so we can add it and then i can get rid of objectdock plus again lol.
the tab view is simlar to the icon-view i had suggested a while back. marines liked it, i hope it will make its debut soon. tabs are like stack panels really. if you put a bunch of stack panels in a icon view, you will have the tab view you see here. and have the panels inside the stack panel also display as icons and open up when you click or mouse over the icons.
objectdock has already made my computer crash ones... seem to conflict with something i have installed... gotta figure it out.. it still used more then 10k, about 15 actually, twice as much as DS, and does nothing close to what DS can do. but it looks kinda hotter...
anyone else wanna give it a shot and see if we can get any new idas for DS?

I don't understand, ObjectDock Plus is a dock, not a sidebar. Can it be compared to DS? It's like comparing Office to iTunes. Am I missing something?

it has docklets that perform many of the same functions as DS. there has been a lot of discussion before comparing different sidebars and docks. they are just different approaches to the same end

Oh, OK. I didn't know that.
I said it once and I say it again - object dock is

and I wish DS could act like it. You can go to the Show us your desktop thread of September and look at Neil's desktop to see how it works

object dock looks better. it has more animation, and stuff is moving around and glowing and spinning, and taking up a lot of resources.
ds does a lot more then objectdock. but its look is more simple. elegant. i think the focus should not be on looks right now, ds looks pretty good, imho, it doesnt need stuff glowing and bouncing around. i would rather use that resources to add another feature. i think we need to look at apps like objectdock and get ideas for featurs and new panels.
I still wish that DS could look that way. But marines is late - he should have said that it is a resource

My 2c worth, it looks and acts like an updated MS Office shortcut bar the tabs stick out and unless using special icons they look crap as you animate them by passing over the bar.
And most of the time the animations get stuck... sorry I bought the program, best combo I have ever used is TrueLaunchBar and DS both work well together and put everything a click away

I have tried TrueLaunchBar and other app launcher like CoolTabs, LaunchTab, Workshelf but nothing can beat ObjectDock Plus. I've been searching this tab app launcher since I encountered Drag Thing but sadly it was for Mac.
Main purpose of using OD+ is to organize apps shortcuts and to monitor my systray since I had them hidden. Another thing I like about OD+ is a feature call flyouts, a very nice way to navigate files within folders.
But hey... DS is much more informative and the way it presents it to users is much more direct than OD+ does. We can see latest infos with just a blink of an eye but when using OD+, you have to unhide it to view the infos unless you use it as taskbar replacement.
Well, that's just me

But you always complain when you hear about a resource hog
I have tried many sidebars, fast apps launchers... and I stopped searching for a good one when I found DS. It was exactly what I wanted. I even don't use Object Desktop since it isn't as comfortable as DS. However I like the way it looks like.

Actually I used OD myself, but only for the Sysstats module and some other docklets. But it was an evil

.
But I think I mentioned this many moons ago, it would be cool if we could intregrate docklets into DS since they are used in various other programs like aquadock.

For me, the two programs are in different categories.
ObjectDock -> Taskbar/systray replacer and app launcher
Desktop Sidebar -> Information management
ObjectDock Plus docklets are kind of weenie - 80% of them are weather or performance monitors.

I can agree. But there are some neat ones in that 20%, though I must agree that how many different variations of the clock and weather are really needed.
