Displays info from the SpeedFan hardware-monitoring application in the Performance panel.

Uses a modified version of code by Richard Blewett.

Version 1.1, Release August 18, 2005, Features:
- Fixed multiple update-checker screens problem.
- Added support for displaying values in Fahrenheit.

Version 1.0, Released July 10, 2005, Features:
- This panel is a Performance panel ticket.
- Ability to choose between Fan/Temperature/Volt monitor-types.
- Ability to specify the index of the monitor.
- Option to launch SpeedFan if not already running.
- Ability to specify the update interval.
- Numerous display options to modify the appearance of the chart.
- Backup/Restore settings in Panel Properties.

Requirements:
- Tested on WinXP SP2, Desktop Sidebar version 1.05 build 92. Older operating systems will almost certainly be OK though, and Desktop Sidebar version 1.04 build 75 shouldn't cause any problems as well.
- Requires the Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1.
- The SpeedFan hardware-monitoring application.

Installation:
- Download and install SpeedFan.
- RECOMMENDED: In SpeedFan, click Configure, and in the Options tab in the dialog box that opens enable the "start minimized" option.
- Download the SpeedFan.DSPACAKGE file from the Extension Exchange page.
- Open the file (double click it), preferably while Desktop Sidebar is running.
- Restart Desktop Sidebar.
- Right click a Performance panel (or add one if you don't have it) and choose Panel Properties. Click Add and choose SpeedFan. Click OK and OK again, and you're good to go.

Please post feedback or questions in this forum thread.

Enjoy! smile.gif

Hi GoMa!

Great Deal! You're really fast...
I'm really keen on this panel!!

Unfortunately I already have got a problem:
In the properties dialog I can't set the "Monitor Type" - so nothing is shown...
Speedfan installed and working fine...

In the setting-File it says:

<panel class="SpeedFan">
<panelsettings/>
<item name="monitorType"/>
<item name="monitorIndex" value="3"/>
<item name="autoLaunchSpeedFan" value="True"/>
<item name="updateIntervalSeconds" value="5"/>
<item name="chartType" value="VerticalProgressChart"/>
<item name="chartLabelPosition" value="HorizontalTopChartText"/>
<item name="chartLabel" value="SPF"/>
<item name="chartShowNumericValue" value="True"/>
<item name="chartValueSuffix" value=""/>
<item name="chartWidth" value="28"/>
<item name="chartHeight" value="20"/>
<item name="chartMinValue" value="0"/>
<item name="chartMaxValue" value="100"/>
<item name="checkForUpdates" value="True"/>
<item name="checkForUpdatesInterval" value="24"/>
<item name="updateCheckerNextCheck" value="11.07.2005 11:54:18"/>

Is there something like
<item name="monitorType" VALUE="???"/>
missing?
Can I add it by hand? "??"= 1 / Temperature / nFan????

Hope this isn't causing you any problems...
GoMa
Oops I'm sorry, I forgot to update a file for release.
Please try downloading and installing again (I recommend that you delete the previous installation before).

YES!!!!

Works great now!!
CPU / HDD Temp all fine!

Thanks GoMa!

(But what the **** am I doing with my Rainmeter skin now??? It became useless blink.gif )
GoMa
No problem. smile.gif
Well you probably learned something from making that skin so it was not completely useless. tongue.gif

can somebody give me a hint? i need voltage, fan speed and cpu temp, but i can only do one of them. How do i use more than one display? in the options i can only change a single display!

thanx in advance

You can run multiple instances - just open the Performance panel's Panel Properties and Add a SpeedFan ticket again.
TheWolfen
This is great! Any way to change it from Celsius to Fahrenheit for the temps? It doesn't use the current selection in SpeedFan. Thanks!
dragon_788
Pretty spiff Goma, just started using it (in Vista no less) and will have to play with Speedfan some more to see what options could be improved. Very nice start though, maybe you should revamp the whole Performance panel for us??? clap.gif
GoMa
Hehe thanks a lot. It is really nice to hear such words. smile.gif

I think I'll pass. tongue.gif

signs021.gif Thanks for this excellent panel, GoMa.
GoMa
Version 1.1 released. Check first post for details.

Very nice panel, thanks!

Is there a way to make it display whole figures only in the text please? (eg 56° not 56.50°)

Also is there a way that you can incorporate any SMART HDD info?

That weird. For me it displays whole numbers. I have no idea what's gone wrong...

I'm afraid SpeedFan doesn't expose this information.
Nick555
Thanks for your quick reply. It's a pity that you can't get the SMART data out.

WRT the decimal points on temp display my versions are:
DS v1.05 build 94
Speedfan v4.26
MSI 975P model MS-6758 BIOS 2.4

Oh it seems that on my computer SpeedFan shows only full values. laugh.gif
I'll add this option. I hope I will be able to release the updated version this week.

Good Stuff,
but i think you have the same update-Problem like in version 1.0.
This plugin dont use the proxy-settings grom DS.
look this:
<--
08:53 Sidebar v1.05 Build 94 (Jul 28 2005 20:49:18) has started.
Windows NT v5.00 Build 2195 CSD:Service Pack 4
User language: German
.NET Framework: PendingUpdates, policy,
...
...
...
08:53 .\MainWnd.cpp 3570 SpeedFan.HttpWebRequest::GetResponse - Das Zeitlimit für den Vorgang wurde überschritten.
...
-->
thanks
Klaus

Yes, I didn't fix it yet. wink.gif

Hibernation problem?
I have problem with several plugins after waking-up from hibernation - when I restore computer from hibernation state, SpeedFan ticket plugin shows temperature 0 instead of real one (but this may be problem of SpeedFan itself, after hibernation it shows temperature 0 too and in message log is this text "IT8712F at $290 msg : error in READTEMPSINTERNAL"). Is my guess (problem is caused by hibernation) correct? Is there a solution for this problem (e.g. automatically restarting SpeedFan by plugin)?
Indian_Mayhem
Sounds like DS is calling for data before the application can be restored from hibernation state. Not sure what you could do about that though.
Mem
Not exactly - as I wrote, problem is in SpeedFan itself (it shows the above error message and temperature 0), so maybe the plugin should restart it
GoMa
I am not aware of any method to detect "waking" from hibernation... If it's a problem of speedfan I'm sure the developer would be happy if you reported the issue in the official site of the application.
Hakim
Great plugin. I think it should be included with Sidebar installation instead of hmonitor (sidebar can't read hdd and graphics card temps from hmonitor) & Motherboard monitor (the program is old & poorly supports new motherboards) plugins.
GoMa
Thank you! smile.gif
It would be a problem to include this plugin with Desktop Sidebar because it requires the .NET Framework unlike DS itself.
CybaGirl
Hello and thanks for this plugin smile.gif..

However I seem to have a problem with it and I am hoping someone can please help me with it..

Here is an image of my Desktop Sidebar and from this image you can see that the Speed Fan plugin is off to the right hand side.

IPB Image

So I am wondering can someone please tell me how I can fix this up so as its either the right or its centered in my Performance tab?

Also while I am at it smile.gif.. Can someone please tell me how I can get my Desktop Sidebar to look like the following image and how do I get all these Speedfan monitors to show in the same image.

IPB Image

Any help will be greatly appreciated smile.gif.

Thanks..

Hey Guys
I couldn't install Speedfan, although I did exactly (or at least I think so.. wink.gif) how you described it. I downloaded and installed it and than I restarted the Sidebar. But it just isn't in the panellist... Can anybody somehow help me?

Greetings
Hanfwurst

EDIT:

Ok, right after I wrote the comment, I managed to do it. Thanks anyway! wink.gif
BigBrat31
I installed SpeedFan downloaded and installed the SpeedFan panel closed deskltop side bar and re-opened it. Went to the Performance panel and went to add speed fan and I get this message.

Cannot create panel SpeedFan
IPanelCreator::CreatePanel returned: Specified cast is not valid

Do you want to disable SpeedFan Plugin

what am I doing wrong?? dry.gif sad.gif

Same problem here.
I think there is a conflict with ippanel.
