I've created a panel to give me a generic overview of the stuff I need to do. I just use it to tell me which projects I need to get done, no due dates or anything, just a simple list. I doubt many people really have a need for it, but I figured if I made it, I might as well make it available for everybody

I must be dense today, but how does one enter items into the list? I have the panel added, but cannot figure out how to add list items.

Right Click and "Add New".

Thanks for the plugin ! I do really have the need of it ! It's very useful.

Few ideas: would it be possible to add an item simply by clicking into the panel or to modify one also by clicking into it ?

To me, it would be nice also to be able to "cross out" an item once it is done (sorry my english is not so good), just to see at the end of the day all that has been done... The same kind of "Task List" with "cross out" option exist on google sidebar (in case what I explain is not very clear...)

Ciao

I'll add those requests to the todolist

This is very handy! -- but I'm frustrated by the fact that it seems I can only add one Priority List panel to my sidebar. I split my work among three major projects, and I would really like to be able to have a separate priority list for each one showing on the sidebar. Is there any way to address this? -- thanks

I added two more "priority list panels" and renamed all of them project 1,2 and 3

if you want to add more "priority list panels" right click on DS and choose add panel and choose the "priority list panel" on the list and click add.

When I right-click, there is no ADD NEW in the list, and the properties item is greyed out. It's useless as is.

if you want to edit , remove, or add something new in the list you have to right click inside the panel !

hairpull.gif Yes, you are right. Unfortunately, when the panel is empty, the panel is 1 pixel high, which I discovered purely by accident. You should have an empty panel open one line height so that the new user has a reasonably obvious space to click in, perhaps?

hm, I have a problem, installing it...
when I run the downloaded dspackage and run it, DS asks me about installing for me or for all users, and when i press next it shows me a message, which says:
Error: End-of-central-directory signature not found. either this file is not a Zip-file, or it constitutes one disk of a multipart-archive.
...
Do you have any Idea?
Im running build 94...

Try downloading the file again. These problems are usually the result of a corrupted file.

Also, I would suggest you upgrade to build 111. It is very stable and includes many bug fixes.
MerlinvS
I downloaded it several times with IE and Firefox...
but I just saw, its a 0-byte file, so there must be an error wih my system i think...
coud anyone send it per mail? merlin [ęt] merlinvs [:] com
and yeah, I'll update...

The download link in the first post in this thread is wrong. Download from here instead.

Ah, good to know ^^
works fine now, thx!

I love that this is a standalone task list. My only hang-up is that I put my to-do's for bill due-dates and such, which are more date-sensitive, and I would love to have an option to pop-up a reminder or something near the due-date.

Great plug-in!

Multiple instances of the panel do not work. They all share the same data. Would you be able to update it to save data by instance ID? Or if that doesn't exist, save it by the custom panel title?

Thanks,

Ben

When I download the file I get a 0 Byte file. blink.gif

This is a common problem with files downloaded from the DS website. Try downloading again and if that fails try a different browser. Also, turn off any download managers that you may be using.

I just Installed the sidebar this morning, and was only going to keep it if it proved helpful...
This is an awesome Panel, in fact exactly what I was looking for (a great way to replace all the sticky notes i have on my desk =p)

I keep only weather for my home town and school, a clock and the task list on my side bar and wanted to make your panel about 3/4 of the height of my screen so i can see all of my homework and such at a glance, all at once.

Anyhow, I was wondering, I may have missed it if it is possible, is it possible to show more than five tasks without scrolling, possibly by stretching the panel to make it longer or a panel properties function?

Thanks,
-Kathy

If you right-click the panel and untick "Autofit Panel". You should then be able to drag the bottom of the panel to make it bigger.

The reason this plugin is great is because it is simple. It serves it purpose without all th extra bells and whistles. For this reason, please reconsider requests that you receive to add this feature and add that feature. If somebody finds that this gadget lacks the features they are looking for then they should look at something else.

The one question I have is where is the data stored. This would be useful to know to back up the list or access it from another pc.

Thanks for a great little gadget!

The data is stored in the sidebar105.settings file, along with all the other panel's settings. You'll find this file in c:\Documents and Settings\<USER NAME>\Application Data\Desktop Sidebar
You can also use Settings Saver, recommended.

Found it. Thanks!

Please consider adding support for multiple instances of this panel in the sidebar. I love this panel, and I use it for everything I need to keep track of. I would really like to be able to manage my personal priority list separate from my work priority list etc.

Alternatively, could you consider sharing the source code for this panel for me to play with?

Thanks a ton for this panel! Great stuff!
