This panel allows sound mixing control from Desktop Sidebar. You may customize which of your sound card supported lines are displayed using the panel properties.

Version 1.0, Released December 13th, 2005

Requirements:
- Tested on WinXP SP2, Desktop Sidebar version 1.05 build 95. Older operating
systems will almost certainly be OK though, and Desktop Sidebar version 1.04 build 75.
- Requires the Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1.

Installation:
- Download the DSPACAKGE file from the Extension Exchange page.
- Open the file (double click it), preferably while Desktop Sidebar is running.

Have fun! smile.gif Please post any questions or feedback regarding the panel in this forum thread.

Very cool. Seems to be working well so far. Of course I have a few requests, but please take them all as compliments based on the work you've already done smile.gif

It would be great to be able to change the recording control levels as well i.e. for the microphone.

It would be great if there were some way to change the mixer levels for the embedded WMP 10. This may be a request for a different panel, but if you're able to do it, I (and I think many other DS'ers) would be extremely thankful

Excellent work on ver 1.0!

Excellent work fun_08.gif clap.gif

It's always great to have new DS panel developers. And thank you for releasing the source code as well.

Two minor problems for me:

- When I clicked "Sounds and Audio Devices" on the context menu I got an error about not being able to find MMDRIVER.INF. On pressing OK the Sounds and Audio Device Properties control panel applet appeared.

- When I clicked on "System volume control" on the context menu nothing happened.

I'm using WinXP 64bit.

Keep up the good work fun_08.gif

Great panel! I've been waiting for this one.

One thing that I found. My sound card has an Aux and an Aux2. When I select either one in panel properties, they both appear, and when you go back into panel properties, they are both checked. The same thing happens in reverse, when you uncheck one.

How do you think this should be handled?

I thought about just listing all the lines for playback and recording but then how would you know which-was-which. I guess I would have a check box to select the line as opposed to the mute button. Or it could be listed in the line level. i.e. Wave (Rec)

Another option would be to allow the panel to display only playback or recording. Then you add two panels.

If not to much trouble could you post the paths to both the system volume control and sound control panel.

In my option the easiest way to get this information is as follows:
-Download ProcessExplorer
-Open ProcessExplorer and click the Process header until it is a nested view.
-Open both the Win64 system volume control and sound control panel.
-Look for both processes, double-click on each and post here the "Command line"

On Win XP/9x the sound control panel is handled by rundll32.exe in you case you need to look for rundll64.exe, but I really have no idea what Win64 uses to control cpl files or if it uses them at all. Good luck. wink.gif

Sorry, no can do. I don't live in Buffalo any more. sad.gif

Here is the process info you asked for:

"D:\WINDOWS\system32\rundll32.exe" D:\WINDOWS\system32\shell32.dll,Control_RunDLL "D:\WINDOWS\system32\MMSYS.CPL",@0

"D:\WINDOWS\system32\SNDVOL32.EXE"

Seem to both be 32-bit versions. Could the problem be that they are on the D: drive?

If I have some time I will try to investigate - as you've posted the source code wink.gif

Nice work! This is something I've been waiting for fun_08.gif

first i have to say: thanks a lot for this panel fun_08.gif smile.gif and it's great for my daily work (have no hotkeys for volume on my keyboard)

But it would also be great, if you could add a possibility to choose the sound device that is controlled by the panel.
In the source i saw you already added a combobox for devices, so i think you also had this idea. Would be great, if you could make it work smile.gif

hi im new to sidebar, and just downloaded this and tried it. love the mixer plugin.

Could osmeone tell me how i find my stereo mixer in the panel properties? i'd like to have mic and stereo mixer so i can switch between the 2. but when i goto panel properties, it doesnt give me an option to choose my recording side, so i can't choose stereo mixer... is there a way around this?

Thank You.
xtacbyme
is the record\stereo mixer\ mix ability not possible?

don't mean to repost but have had no replies since my last post so thought i would try once more.

thank you.

Under the Control Panel, look for Sound Properties. Then after opening, select Options>Properties. Change the option to Recordings that will display your sound mixer volume settings.

Is there any plans to make this panel vista compatible?
mike_b1954
..work IS in progress for a fully Vista Compatable Sidebar ... Unfortuneately it is quite a major task ...

Good things come to those who wait !

Anyone using this with a Creative Audigy 2? I installed mine, and now I get an error when trying to load this.

Cannot create panel DSMixer.
IPanel::Create returned: WaveLib.AudioMixer.MixerException

In my panel properties I don't have an option for displaying the microphone volume. Anybody know why
this might be?
metal321
I think I see the problem now. It would be one of the different colored inputs that you can choose from I guess. The problem for me is that I am using the microphone in my Logitech webcam. I wanted an easier way to mute the microphone than the mute button on the Live Messenger window. I'll have to keep looking.
