cant find xyz123.dll

This is an awkward name for a *.dll, guess it's faulty spyware, malware or something.

I think it was meant as a generic .dll name.

@ Indian_mayhem :

..... so I can get all the .dll's I'll ever need off the XP CD ? . . . where would I find them ? unsure.gif

Well, the DLLs that are part of the OS...yes those can come from the CD. DLLs that are part of programs you've installed, that would be somewhere else. Like any DLL that comes with DS.

But my concern would be also figuring out why your DLL is missing in the first place. Windows DLLs can be unloaded by security flaws but not something you can do as a general user. In fact, to replace mission critical DLLs....you have to be in safe mode with networking support (so you can get out to the net). Sometimes a piece of spyware simply renamed it and replaced it with it's own version.

Granted it's a great idea of having DLLs in a central repository that you can download, you have to keep aware that the version that is listed there...may not be the version you may use. And getting a newer version of that DLL without the supporting files that support it could make things worse.

You can find the compressed files on the I316 folder (if I'm remembering right). Or do a search on the CD for the name of the DLL only (not the extension because they are renamed when compressed).

Of course, I'm a cup half empty person so I often think worst case scenarios.
