I made this topic, because in the general forum you can only show desktops with DS,
so for those who dont have DS installed, here's a SUYD (Show us your desktop) thread, where you can show off your cool desks without DS, of course , you can also show your desktops here with DS, but that's the official forum for.
So, here's mine:

Dunno, just seems kinda of odd posting a desktop capture w/o Desktop Sidebar and posting the image on the Desktop Sidebar forums.

And I finally found a decent replacement for DS - just look at the top.

As a matter of fact, it's just GNOME's panel. You can add many applets to it, some of them are included as a default, an some of them can be downloaded via Synaptic.
There are, from left to right, shortcuts for my most used apps, a DeskBar applet (like the command line panel for DS), a weather applet, a network meter, the notification area, an automated mail checker and the CPU usage meter. Basically almost anything I need, and the open source nature of Linux ensures that if it doesn't exists, I can program it easily - for example, on the bottom right corner of the screen there's an applet I've developed which shows what's on TV now, based on the Israeli XMLTV script. I'm planning to release it after cleaning it up and making it more feature-rich.

Currently Reinstalling everything. Still got a few Visual Tweaks to do. But I'm running FreeBSD 6.0 w/Gnome 2.14, running gDesklets (w/weather forcast widget), gaim, termnial and thunderbird. The Open Office Icon is a icon set i found off the internet, and the firfox icons, are the Firefox Crystal set. the font on the whole computer, is one of the fonts from Mac OSX, Lucida Grande

Lookin' good
What made you choose thunderbird over evolution, BTW?
DemonBob
May 19 2006, 09:43 AM
Well i haven't really choose defentally as of yet, i'm acctually switching between the two of them to see which i like better. I'm not leaning to either side as of yet.

Nice WindowsKiller.
I guess it's time to post a minor update to mine.
The background is from gnome-look.org, the icon in the top corner i made from the main freebsd.org sites top logo, before i found this desktop background.

For something a bit more interesting, save the .wav file and change the themed sound in control panel for 'new mail notification'.

Nothing too fancy, just the windows Royale theme with matching DS; I mixed a couple of existing Royale DS themes because none suited me completely. DS is hidden but when I get the replacement Samsung 214T monitor (RMA because of dead pixels) it will be set to visible again; 1600x1200 is soo much better for sidebars
Click to view attachmentEdit; sorry for the small pic, the forum won't let me upload it as a file attachment and imageshack isn't what it used to be

Edit 2; fixed it by using jpeg.
@mike_b1954; Paint jpeg looks so crappy, that's why I prefer png. Downside is the filesize, that's why imageshack gave me a smaller pic.

WindowsKiller- great looking desktop- good to have you back again.
As a builder I did not find the project to be stupid. Actually cool. Many climates have a moisture problem that will cause deterioration of the structure. Seeing alternative solutions to this problem is great. Here in the Northeast of the US we have basements that are underground level and they can pose moisture problems if not sealed correctly.
