Here's a screenshot of a Google Maps panel I'm currently working on - mostly for fun because I like Google maps and thought it would be cool.

Let me know if it doesn't work, it did for me. Requires .Net 2.0 and the map won't load on the first run (weird path issues), so for now you'll have to restart desktop sidebar after installing before the map will load.

Thoughts?

I'm going to move this into the Panel Dev area. I would imagine you would want to have two separate threads for those panels, especially when users have specific questions about one but not the other.

On a sidenote, I'd like to find out more about how you implemented the MCE panel for upcoming recordings. I'm working on a BTV 4 Upcoming Recordings panel myself.

The Google Maps panel looks excellent. Feel free to ask any questions regarding panel development. Will it be possible to search for places (restaurants etc.) in the map? A Details Window might fit for this purpose.

I'm making another thread for the WMC Recordings panel. Please discuss only the Google Maps panel in this thread. Thank you.

It certainly could be possible. It's definitely something I'll think about doing depending on how much time it takes to implement. I like the idea of placing te results in the details window though and leaving the main panel just for the map (& markers).

I'm just parrsing the xml file media center stores the data in (C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Microsoft\eHome\Recording\Recordings.xml). I originally started out just making an xsl file but had lots of problems converting the date into the local time and though a dsplugin would be cool anyway.
